Wabi-sabi is a term that signifies the acceptance of beauty in the transience, imperfection, and incompleteness of things, which is uniquely manifested through the ceramic technique of kurinuki.
Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique involving carving and hollowing out a vessel from a single block of clay.
Each piece created thus becomes a unique original sculptural work.
So, let’s take a weekend wabi-sabi moment together, where we set aside our expectations, haste, and pressure to perform, and instead enjoy the playful imperfection hidden in the kurinuki technique.
Let’s relax, connect with the clay, feel its texture, weight, and consistency, and flow on the waves of meditative work with clay as we create a few unique, sculpturally crafted pieces with soul, such as trimmed cups, small bowls, or little vases.
